Srinagar, Oct 16: The Police on Monday admitted that the speed of the mobile internet in Kashmir was tuned-down in order to curb the rumour mongering in the wake of the braid chopping incidents.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Range, Muneer Khan told The Kashmir Monitor that the mobile internet has not been snapped but the speed has been brought down.
“The mobile internet services are intact. Only the speed has been slowed down, just to avoid rumour mongering,” he added.
Khan refused to comment on how soon the services would be reinstated fully.
“The internet is being misused. Miscreants and anti-social elements are taking the advantage of the situation which has arisen due to braid chopping. They are using the social networking sites as a means to spread rumours. The misuse of social networking sites is creating fear psychosis among the people,” he said.
Muneer said that internet services are banned or slowed down just because of these reasons.
The speed of the mobile internet is slow in the valley for the last few days, creating problems for the users.
